Tachibana Sayume is a painter from Taisho and the early Showa Period of Japan (around 1920-1940). He learned under the great master from each art category such as Kuroda Seiki or Kawabata Gyokusho, produced prints and Japanese-style painting apart from illustration for magazines and novels. He was also called gPhantom Painterh, because he represented womenfs evil charm referring to folktales or legends, which was sometimes prohibited the issue. Here depicted is gMadam Butterflyh by Puccini, dressed in the vivid kimono printed butterfly, staring at the sea where a ship going along, holding a baby boy whose father is an American marine officer. She is waiting for his back even after he disconnected any contact, but she, who finally knew he has a wife in the States, killed herself leaving her boy to somebody. Such fragile and dedicated Madam Butterfly is elaborately depicted in this piece. Condition: small creases
